How 2.0 Are You?
PCR had a massive response to their recent “How 2.0 Are You?” quiz which everyone attending the Internet World Show was invited to take part in – with points meaning prizes for the many coming to the stand to claim them!
Although the quiz was a lighthearted look at what life in the world of Web 2.0 is all about, some of the responses give an interesting insight into how people are embracing the opportunities new on-line technology is giving them.
As a 2.0 recruitment consultancy, PCR were particularly keen to see how respondents to the quiz were embracing the wider communications opportunities provided in our 2.0 world.
Our question on using Skype as a way of talking on-line produced a 96% positive response, demonstrating just how popular this (and undoubtedly other similar on-line chat and talk programs) are. However perhaps less predictably only 15% of these were using the technology in the work-place with customers, the vast majority therefore only using it as a cheap and interactive way of keeping in touch with friends and family. So it seems that although we’re happy talking on-line with those we know and love, we’re less comfortable yet in introducing this level of informality into our working life.
The question on use of webcams also provoked an interesting response. 64% of respondents had used a web-cam, and this is definitely something that we will be factoring into our planning going forward, aiming to replace the standard first stage telephone interview with a much simpler way of getting face to face than anyone having to take time out travelling. Obviously there is no substitute for the face to face interview once client and candidate want to meet to move forward, but if the telephone call can be replaced with a face to face also – as they say a picture paints a thousand words!
Finally we looked at the answers to the question on how much people are downloading in the new web world – no surprises that less than 10% of respondents hadn’t downloaded either pod or vodcasts to their ipod or pc. Again this is something we will be factoring in to help both candidates and clients in future, with first on the agenda being a Guide to Successful interviews podcast coming soon on the PCR web site!
Thanks to everyone who took part in the quiz, hope you found it fun and maybe even learned something? The answers will be published on the web site in for anyone who didn’t manage to go Googling or Wikipedia-ing and research what they didn’t know!
