The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Big picture – Views from the Media Front Line
In recent months the news headlines in the media sector have been a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly!
The Good "IBC: Recession, what recession?" The headline from Broadcastnow at IBC where technology manufacturers and providers remained buoyant with the view that new technology is an area in which the industry can't afford not to invest if it's to move forward
The Bad "Channel 4 to cut 150 jobs in bid to save £150million over 2 years" - headline in the Guardian (and everywhere else) on 23rd September
The Ugly Depending on your personal views and where you sit in the industry (!) take your pick from the continuing delays to the OFT ruling on Kangaroo or Ofcoms mooted transfer of BBC Worldwide to Channel Four, both creating continuing uncertainty for the future delivery of on-line content and public service broadcasting, in what are already cloudy areas
PCR follows these and all other industry movements closely, on a daily basis, as clearly anything which affects our customers positively or negatively ultimately has an affect on how we need to work with them effectively going forward, by understanding their current and future needs better. We also maintain that in every challenge there is an opportunity : for instance in the current market if your competitors are putting a freeze on recruitment, this gives you the opportunity to attract the best people for your business in a less competitive landscape. Provided you continue to approach your resource plan as a key strategy for your business, you will benefit in the long term. If you are uncertain or constrained on permanent employment, bring professionals in on a contract basis but don't be tempted to sacrifice filling essential roles to the business, and keep focusing on achieving your targets."
